Analysis of "The Songbird"

In a wood near my place is a thicket before a meadow,
In this coppice lives a bird that sings a new song, this song I carry with me throughout my day,
Most past this wood with the birds' song going unnoticed,
Even though I know his song I find myself returning again and again just to hear that hauntingly familiar tune,
One day I returned with my guitar to play an instrumental for this songbird,
I never played so well,
The songbird fell silent,
I figured that he must have left but as I finished my song he started singing again,
Was he listening to me?
Is that why he was hushed while I played?
I sat and listened to his blissful melody and pondered,
Once again the songbird fell silent,
I seized the opportunity to play yet another instrumental,
What happened next perplexed me,
The songbird started singing while I played,
But this time it was a different tune,
I swear He was singing along with my playing guitar,
It was an endearing melody that we performed together,
As we played the songbird hopped over close to me
Watching and singing,
What kind of bird was this I thought as we continued our opus,
This heavenly songbird whose melody was only matched by his beauty,
I returned the next spring, but he never,
His song lingers on in my heart...

About this poem

This particular poem I wrote after playing my acoustic guitar outside on my farm in Manitoba. Although there is a certain amount of embellishments this does reflect upon an actual event...
