Analysis of Today I say Goodnight

today I say goodnight
To the highest of the High Kings
Professed in love and loyalty to the generations of Erin
To the most steadfast
And far most faithful friend.

To the guardian in silence at my knee
To  quiet and dignified love
And comfort at the ready

To the high creature descended of heroes To the many generations before you
And to your boundless forgiveness

Run free with Gelert
Across the fields of Whales

Run free with The hound of Aughrim
And Bally Shannon upon battlefields world wide

Find the gravesite of CuChulainn,
And let him bow. Your hound has come home.

Today I say goodnight
