Analysis of Dear Moon

Is it shameless of me to say that I want more?
Every planet revolves around me, I am the centerpiece,
yet no one comes to see me nor be my companion
Am I that searing that no one wants to touch me?

To the graceful moon, that everyone loves,
funny are poets writing how great the sun is but prefers you.
How the sun is present in everything but the moon is the one who listens
and I adore how every entity is a poet;

I want to hear stories too,
I want my presence to be felt as I am with my people
I want to be seen and adored
I want to be the one people always hope for.

I want to be loved in my own presence
not because I am setting, ready to be replaced by the moon.
Sunsets are alluring, but oh how they hurt me
as I see how much my people are eager to see my goodbyes.

Maybe I existed so that the moon can be appreciated,
as they cheerfully wish for my end.

About this poem

I wrote this poem because after a few conversations with people and having the same topic of choosing which they like more; the sun or the moon, I see that the sun is not really appreciated. I could also relate this to personalities, there is a sunshine friend that is with us during the day but we only open our hearts to our moon.
