Analysis of One Day

Connie S. Peters 1963 (Galveston, Tx)

The storm is slowly raging, the waves are ten feet high,
I'm trying to figure out how I'll make it through the night.
You start to ask me questions of nothing I know about,
Convinced you know the truth beyond the shadow of a doubt.

I'm given you all the love I can even up till now,
Only disrespect you've shown me bringing me totally down.
How can you say you love me you never hear what I say,
Only hurt and pain you've shown me I feel it day to day.

My pillows are filled with downpours from tears I've cried at night,
Cause it seems that lately you look for reasons to fight.
Telling me that I am yours you'll never let me go,
Cause if you can't have me no one will, you always tell me so.

I feel like such a prisoner having nowhere to run,
Not even to go outside and enjoy the sun.
One day I'll break these chains that bind me day and night,
And I know somewhere out there, I'll find my Mr. right.

I can't wait until that day where I can be rid of you,
And erasing every part of you is the day I look forward to.
One day!!
