Analysis of A Father’s Creed

Matthew Zagorski 1986 (NY)

Always planning vacations, your latest distraction.

Whys there no peace at home, can you answer me that one?

Is it because in your core you can feel that it’s wrong, but you don’t say a word cause you can’t piss them off.

You see the injustice and feel it inside, so what do you do? You run and you hide.

Come up with excuses for a system so fucked.
Rules made by man, perverted, corrupt.

You listened in school and you hardly would fuss. You’re perfect for this.
You can be one of us.
Just follow the rules, but try not to see, than you too can forget who you used to be.

Don’t shout out the truth, here at our molding station or we’ll take all your money.
Forget your vacation.

Plus don’t forget about  mortgage, the daycare, and car. Better play by the rules or you’ll never get far.

You’ll be just like the drunk in your town or the pub, or the crazy guy dancing in back of the club.

You’ll be the one on the bus that rides through the city.
We’ll all point at you and take joy on your pity.

You’ll probably resemble a scrub or a bum.
You’re so fucking smart, but you’re so fucking dumb.

You’ll stumble while shouting with booze on your breath.
You’ll yell dumb shit at cops and be jailed like the rest.

Not till you get out will you do what we say. With a family you love we know we’ll keep you away.

You’ll look like a low life.
They won’t hear what you say.
They’ll have a new dad.
He does what we say.

If you’re a man with regrets who loves and protects.
If you won’t live on your knees and have blood on your chest.
You’ll have to survive off of torment and sweat and you’ll fight for your kids that you’ll never get back.

If you hide your convictions you’ll probably liv3 in the house with your wife, and your dogs, and your kids, but you won’t know your kids cause they won’t see their dad.
They see a reflection of someone they had.

Their mom is there though, the mom is the dad.
Her intentions are pure, but her methods are bad.

The methods are good in regards to the order, but the order is hell, and hells what she ordered.

The mom is the dad like you see on tv and the dad’s the enforcer like he’s forced to be.
He does all of her bidding like running in place.
He now wears a dick on the front of his face.

Though he couldn’t see it, he’s feeding the queen. He sits in his silence with no light to see.
He begins to remember who he used to be.

Drowning in sorrow but burning with rage.
Dwelling on all the beliefs he betrayed.
Raging with fury but rotting within.
Angels are crying with devil’s last win.

Than the light opened up and he woke the fuck up.
God shook His head firm and said “fuck some shit up.”

He stood to his feet and he started to see all of the ways that he’s been deceived.
He’s a monster you see, but he had the light.
He had the patience and his words were right.
The system looked right, so he thought he was wrong.
He sobbed when he realized he let this go on.

He stormed from his lair, the one place he could think.
His mind opened up and his sanity blinked.
He stormed in the rooms of the kids he once spanked.
He just couldn’t wait to get rid of their hate.

They said look aren’t you proud, we’re not being ourselves, we follow the rules that you’ve laid in this house.

He dropped to his knees and started to cry. The vail has been lifted, he wanted to die. When they saw all the pain that had rushed to his eyes, they had seen a new side but they didn’t know why.

He sat down and told them to take off their masks. Take off your armor, and loosen your back.
They looked at each other, now who would do that? They pulled off their fake and they never looked back. I pulled off mine too. The monster is back. I’ll fight till I die. I’ll plan an attack.

I then heard a voice saying Where is the broom? I can’t get no peace, are the kids in their room? I have shit do do so can you move your truck? He crept up with a smile and said shut the fuck up!

I’ve been doing your bidding and losing myself, but if you want you some answers Ill give you some help. The system is wrong and the monsters are right. It’s all upside down what a pleasant delight. So the right is now wrong and the wrong is now right, and since I have convictions, it’s time for a fight. Hero’s have monsters but what do they do? They hide all their shit just to fit in with you.

The fake and the phony, they scratch and they lie, they tell all your secrets, pour salt in your eyes. They sit at their desks and they kill with their pen. The same exact shit that was once done to them. They are the system, but they won’t speak up. If you fuck with the system, they’ll fuck your ass up.

They’re dying inside, but they try to fix it with cars and vacations and booze and prescriptions. They’re all fucking blind to their own fucking problems, they scratch at the surface, but cant dive to the bottom. If behind all your armor, you’re sinking this in and constantly looking for means to the end, don’t stray from your guidance and follow your gut. Find what you stand for and stand the fuck Up!
