Analysis of Screaming for Help

Betty J Reed 1970 (New York)

As we grow old and sit back in thought
I can’t help but think of all the wars we fought
For freedom? fairness? maybe we should have fought harder
I guess we expect the US government to be a little smarter
WORLD WAR 1 and word war two
And even the Vietnam war
What the Hell were we thinking, sending boys to die, what did we do it all for?
For freedom, for fairness, for the American dream?
That’s ridiculous when we have hungry and homeless it seems
Priorities have shifted, the rich stay rich,
While most of us, can eat/pay rent, it’s up to us which
GOD HELP AMERICA
THE STRUGGLE IS REAL
HEAR US NOW, WHAT IS THE DEAL?
Please ease our burden
Don’t let the American dream die, BY the way,
We expect a prompt reply
The homeless population is getting large
Eviction and inflation on supercharge
You think it’s big now, just you wait,
It’s going to get much larger, when the damn finally breaks.

Betty J Reed

I used to write about hopes and dreams and I met most, but I’m a girl that has many curiosities that I love to share. Poetry is how I get my thoughts across. I’m just a small town girl that tried out the big city and went home only to find that those I yearn for are long gone. I’m finding my own way and at 52 years young, I’m trying out the one dream that I’ve never allowed myself and that is to believe in my writing and most of all believe in myself. more…
