Analysis of The Inescapable Cycle of Womanhood

Women are expected to be mothers
Making suppers, tucking covers
And when they’re not they’re shamed.

The stay at home mums who sacrificed their life
Finally realise time has not been nice
So years and years of suppressing their resentment
Manifests itself with not much contentment
"I am living my life through you" she said.

Now I know she just was expressing her thoughts
But it made me full of such deep remorse
Meaning those words spoken that night
Could somehow in my brain ignite
A feeling of true and utter guilt
Yet somehow make me want to build

Cycles of women will not end due to my chastity
So becoming a mother will be my reality
As I can't deal with their look of disappointment
When they find out I don't want to be extorted
So i’ll blame my daughter causing my decline
But hope she doesn't continue our line

About this poem

This is a poem about motherhood, and ow from a young age I've always been pressured to have children, and subsequently leave their work. My mother did it. She hated it. I won't.
