Analysis of The Beach— Where You Like to be Barefoot
Aasiyah 2006 (USA)
What's crazy is that—
Sometimes I still wear that dress.
The dress that made you leave.
And I don't feel a single thing.
In fact,
I feel comfortable wearing this dress.
It makes me look and feel beautiful.
It supports my breasts; it's loose.
It's white, and blue, and black.
It has two strings with silver beads on it.
I wear this dress
and it's like nothing ever happened.
Because it happened to me,
not the dress.
I defy the existence of the painful past
with the wearing of this dress
because I never associated any of the abuse
with this mere piece of fabric.
This is my dress.
My grandmother bought it for me.
And it reminds me of the beach
