Analysis of Woodland Road

Phillip Albert King 1944 (Manhattan)

When autumn sings' the amber song and swaying aspen dance along,
The world stands firm beneath my feet, for I'm secure that I belong.

Too soon in eventide's retreat, when level-light slips bittersweet,
Beyond the woodlands silhouette, I linger in the falls' replete.

Quiet now when dusk has set, shadowed sycamores rest, and yet, their mottled sides still whisper soft,
How they belong, without regret.

Because the night wind sings' to me, it's forest songs' sweet melody, The woodland road home, I see,
Directs me back to reality.
