Analysis of The Priceless Dream

Tamara J Schmidt 1967 (Salt Lake City, Utah)

A new morning rises as I open my eyes, I stare out the window to discover blue skies. I'm laying in my bed then my eyes shift to the right, to catch a glimpse of a mysterious box in sight. Where did that box come from I've never seen it before, it's sitting next to the closet by my bedroom door. Up I go to proceed taking a much greater look, on the way I trip over my last nights read book. I land next to the box with its flap in my face, between me and the box there isn't much space. I scoop myself up to see what is inside, for the box is so short and the box is so wide. I get up and pull out a medium gold box, it is wooden with gems and even a lock. I have a nick knack shelf to place this golden box on, where it will always stay safe and never be gone. I throw out the box where it's not in the way, night-time has fallen and is no longer day. The new morning comes and I look by my bedroom door, suddenly I realize there's that same box on the floor. I know I got rid of it now why is it there, I slide on my slippers and throw back my hair, I approach that same box and I pull out bags of gold, now I am wealthy for these bags can't be sold. I retreat to the shelf and place all the gold bags down, I feel like I'm queen now where's my golden crown. A new night has fallen and at the end of the day, so once again I throw that same box away. The box is empty I don't need it anymore, I wake up in the morning to find it laying on the floor. I look in the box and find a golden crown, along with it is gold shoes and a gold gown. I put on the crown, shoes, and gown with grace, this is what I enchantedly embrace. I merrily dance around the room and the night-time is falling, It is time to quit dancing for my sleep is calling. I remove my gold shoes, I remove my gold gown, I must not forget to remove my gold crown. I retreat my new treasures to the shelf once more, crawl in to my bed and hope for more treasures galore. The next morning has come and I look by my bedroom door, I don't see that same box laying there anymore. I return to the shelf for I am rich as it may seem, when I look the treasures are all gone, I realize that this was just a dream.

About this poem

I wrote this poem with creativity, passion, and symbolism to express what one can hope for when reaching for a dream. If what one can dream for is found through sleep, it can become reality.
