Analysis of A Day In My Life

George Cook 1934 (Lanarkshire)

I get up in the morning, get washed, get dressed and then
After having breakfast, a nano-nap till ten
Well that is until Friday when washing's done and dried
And Saturday's the day when my groceries are supplied
On the PC other days, not much else for me to do
Takes my mind of other things especially feeling blue
First of all to Facebook to see what someone wrote
Maybe something stupid or worthy of some note
If I'm not on Facebook there's other things I do
Like trying to write some poetry, maybe play a game or two
Then I am interrupted, my lunch is calling me
But I am back on shortly and before long's time for tea
After which I have a check if TV I want to view
But I doubt it very much, nothing is very new
So there my day is over, I'll now turn out the light,
Pull the bedclothes o'er my head, I am off to sleep ... Goodnight

George Cook

I was born, grew up, and worked in Scotland. I got married in July 1960 and migrated to Australia in 1965 under the then Assisted Passage Migration Scheme. For nine years in Scotland, 1956 to 1965, I worked for a large photographic company which also operated in Australia. I worked there until 1994 when I took early retirement. By this time the children had all grown up it gave my wife and I the chance to think about going ‘back home’ to visit relatives and relations. We did in fact have three visits 1998, 1999 and 2000. My wife and I shared our lives and times together for the rest of 58 years and four months when, sadly, my wife passed away in hospital. more…
