Analysis of Dream Assassin

Dream assassin, by whom are you paid?
And why on my head is the bounty laid?
Why, of all the places I've wished you to be,
Why did you appear to torment me?

Dream assassin, why did you come?
Is seeing me troubled your only fun?
Does hearing me whimper give you peace?
Why on my dreams did you come to feast?

Dream assassin, what must I do?
Oh, beauty slayer, what can I give you
To ease the pain of my hearts knotted tangle?
So that, my joy you won't forever strangle.

Dream assassin, why not haunt the 'mares?
Why trickle your poison in the prettiest of snares?
Oh, killer of peace, why do you wear a disguise?
Are you trying to speak to me, or do you slay with lies?

About this poem

It came to me late one night after a lovely dream that made me miss someone who was no longer in my life. It made me hurt badly.
