Analysis of Sometimes the ocean
Ross Ritchell 2022 (Illinois)
Sometimes the ocean
swallows the sun
whole,
sometimes giving
it back.
And sometimes the ocean
lets the laughter
of a child
cut through the wild
wind
blowing free from its crests.
And sometimes the ocean
holds the heavens
aloft,
alone,
without a whisper
or a word
of complaint.

About this poem
I like thinking about the cyclical nature of large bodies of water--it is a terrifying and beautiful phenomena.
