Analysis of How could this be how could I be she?

Broke By:
Mae Sealy

How could I be she?
She was once amazed, by his simple gaze
She who lay with him, missed the simple days
Who watched his prisoned luscious heart expand and unfold the love of a true man
She observed every slight movement, every small smirk, every caress of his strong bare hand.
How could this be, how could I be she?
The girl that anyone and everyone would pity to see,
Who weep alone in the darkness at half past 3
Who shed not buckets but rivers of tears
For the person who would sit alone unaffected with his head completely clear
How could this be, how could I be she?
Wondering how long the stabbing bleeding pain would last
She who tried to heal but scars and memories continue to mock from the past,
She who was once a avantages, optimistic young girl
Was now a soldier, coming home broken, from the emotional swirl
She now there alone, left to ask herself
How could this be, how could I be she?

About this poem

So I was in a rather happy mood writing this poem. Although the issue I came across is, I cannot write a sad poem being happy. So, I made myself feel what a heart broken girl would feel, I felt the stabbing pain, the embarrassment. I put myself in the place of a girl who had been cheated on although this can and should be interpreted in any way that might apply to someone who is broken.
