Analysis of Beyond Permitted Boundaries
Lawrence S. Pertillar 1947 (Connecticut)
Okay.
I admit it.
I took lemons thrown at me.
And from them made,
Delicious lemonade.
I am guilty.
I also took the liberty,
To hop over the fence of limits.
With signs warning to censor,
Those who dared to not be aware...
Of restricted words to use.
Offending those,
Who choose truth to refuse..
Heard to hear it used.
This...
Like the making of delicious lemonade.
I did.
And before you I admit my guilt.
Then...
As if mindless.
And generously disrespectful.
I brought needless and unnecessary,
Controversy upon every move I make.
Without hesitating,
To create alibis and excuses for myself.
'We accept your apology.
With our forgiveness to given.'
'I appreciate that.
But something is missing.'
'What do you mean,
Something is missing?'
'No one has of yet,
Asked me to explain...
Why those who write to have insight.
Could care less about limits to restrict,
God given talents...
Blessed to get limitless.
To the ones with minds,
Wishing to bridge the gap between...
Steadfast ignorance.
And a consciousness,
That is addicted to feed upon...
Stupidity to believe it benefits!
If it had not been,
For Benjamin Franklin, Edison...
Carver, Douglas or Banneker.
Where would we be,
Without the mischievous deeds...
Of these pioneering mavericks?'
'Oh?
So,
You are putting yourself...
In that category?'
'I have yet to prove what I continue to do,
Will have value to those...
Socially, mentally,
And historically illiterate!
To leave the odds not in my favor!'
'Never regard change as an impossibility.'
'I don't think that way at all.
Do you remember,
When the use of common sense...
Had been common to make sense?'
'No.
But my grandparents?
I remember them arguing about,
Who had it and who didn't.
And I never knew who had what,
The other didn't have to use.
You see I didn't grow up privileged,
Like others inheriting such things.'
'Common sense is the use of the mind.'
'Oh.
I thought you meant like common cents.
Shared.
Like having a wealth of money.'
'The World today is in such sad shape.'
'Tell me about it.
Trying saying that five times fast.'
'Such sad shape.
Try saying that five times fast.'
'And people wonder,
Why I am so glad to have lived the '50's.'
'No way!
Seriously?'
'Yes way.
And I will never regret,
Remembering when people wanted...
To respect each other and themselves.'
