Analysis of If you knew what I knew then you'd know.
If you only knew the things I knew then you’d know
You’d know that your freckles light up the sky like a million and one constellations
That your eyes shine so bright they could give light to the nations
That your smile
Oh that smile
Is enough to keep me going
And if you knew what I knew, then you’d know
You’d know that forests and rivers and castles and theme parks
Aren’t nearly as exciting as the adventure of you
That whilst flowers and diamonds and pearls are so pretty
my dear, you are special too
You’d know that cosy days, bed days, rainy days and movie days manage to the demons away
You’d know that from the minute I wake to the thoughts before sleep, you are the dreams of today.
And If you knew what I knew then you’d know
That my smile is brighter
My day is lighter
My eyes glimmer whiter
And my heart hurts tighter
Every time I think of you
If you truly knew what I felt, my dear you’d know what to do.

About this poem
When I was younger I used to make up songs, according to my mum a recurring one was called 'If you only knew the things I knew then you’d know' - a bit of a mouthful! I ran with this and made the line into a poem.
