Analysis of Mythic Imprint of the Human Psyche

Of mythical stuff.
Mankind’s imagination.
Since all life began.
A worldwide phenomenon.
Displayed in every human.

It’s psyche’s imprint.
In DNA embedded.
Psyche’s “fingerprint.”
Since the dawn of creation.
And always replicated.

Legends speak of them.
From the West to the Far East.
Kept live in our tales.
Preserved in ancient stories.
In tablets and papyri.

This Fertile Crescent.
Mediterranean soil.
Tilled to make paper.
Transformed communication.
Pithy stems of water plants.

Preserved for lifetime.
To transmit to our children.
For all to read.
The tales of our ancestors.
Of civilizations past.

Nations repeat them.
Through songs, music, and dances.
Cultures uplift them.
In literature we read them.
Philosophers write of them.

Our spirits rising.
Drums, instruments, and cymbals.
Ring out, rejoicing.
With awe and with majesty.
Our ancient birthrights preserved.

Deep in our psyche.
Our Collective Unconscious.
These tales are stored up.
In archetypes preserved.
To restore us to Oneness.

About this poem

The mythic imprint of the human psyche is historically attested and universally manifested. Swiss psychiatrist, Carl Gustav Jung, in “Psychology and Religion,” describes it this way: “Myth is not fiction. It consists of facts that are continually repeated and can be observed over and over again. It is something that happens to man, and men have mythical fates, just as much as the Greek heroes do” (CW 11, par. 648). This poem, “Mythic Imprint of the Human Psyche,” is an elaboration of Carl Jung’s commentary on what he describes as “mythical fates.
