Analysis of In The Park

George Hodgson 2003 (Birmingham)

In the Park

In the park is where I last saw you
Your hair a victim to the way the wind blew
But a cloud had set over your once bright eyes
As you informed us today, we say our goodbyes

In the park I combed through my brain
What did I do or say that caused this strain?
But you said it was nothing and you wanted to be friends
Hollow words when a relationship ends

In the park I held a stoic expression
Attempting not to display my depression
But I had loved you and loved you dear
But now you decided to break up with me here

It didn’t make sense and it didn’t compute
You made no sense and so I couldn’t refute
All your claims of dishonesty and cheat
They were lies, malformed and incomplete

In the park I once again looked into your eyes
And begged you not to say those lies
However, those eyes were not the ones which I adored
They were listless, lifeless, and seemingly bored

In the park is where I last saw you
Your hair a victim to the way the wind blew
You truly broke my heart that day
And the pain will never go away.
