Analysis of Hidden Scars

Ramona Betancourt 1949 (New York)

Demure grin, flawless skin
Mask the injuries within.
Palpitations, clammy hands
Always careful where she stands.
Self-effacing, anti-dating
Exhausted from the sleepless nights.
Migraine headaches, depressed spirit
All seems dark, where is the light?
On her knees she prays each day
And at night looks to the stars
“Keep me safe from every harm
Leave him behind prison bars”.
