Analysis of #The Analytics of a Hashtag

The spawn of Twitter
a hashtag’s no quitter,
dauntingly persistent,
steadfastly consistent,
leaving none resistant,
forever existent…
A social media spawn,
not requiring much brawn.
Its audience impassioned,
fixated attention,
synaptic retention.
The eyes and the brain,
a syncopated refrain —
A hashtag’s crossed lines
are psychological signs
designed to engage
what’s seen on a page,
affecting belief.
(may result in some grief!)
A tool of the savvy
who find it quite snazzy.
A hashtag with glitter,
this symbol’s no quitter.
The faithful don’t fritter,
though some may be bitter.
The hashtag’s a label,
a social media fable.
Take it or leave it,
It’s compellingly writ.
Its urgent theme
Is an instant gleam.
Aimed  as a target,
so skillful its market
to filter its message
with a rite of passage
ceremoniously inscribed,
for audiences subscribed.
The hashtag’s a locus
for people to focus.
compelling an action,
to provide satisfaction.
The  analytics are crucial
to encourage your perusal.
The product’s not untoward
if it’s to ensure a reward.
Its customers having looked,
to keep them all hooked!
Take it or leave it,
The hashtag’s a big hit!

About this poem

My curiosity about hashtags was triggered by another curiosity concerning how, in the psychology of belief, the brain often distorts the world of information to support one’s preconceived beliefs and emotional attachments to certain ideas at certain times and in certain circumstances. Hashtags seem to fit that category of psychological persuasion, hence the title of this poem, “The Analytics of a Hashtag.”
