Analysis of I Wear a Mask

My life is sometimes hard to explain.
Since I've built up walls to hide my pains.
I WEAR A MASK, for each struggle I face.
I don't want people to think I have even a trace
of sorrow or pain in my life.
So I put on an air that all is just fine.
When really I'm breaking down inside.
But I don't let you see this pain I feel.
So I put on my mask, even though it's not real.
I'm afraid you won't like me, if you see the true me.
I fear that you'll reject me because of what you'd see.
Please don't turn away, when I don't respond to you.
Even though my struggle is so painful,
I really appreciate all you do.

About this poem

This poem was written for someone dealing with a mess load of pain and anger about what his uncle did to him. I also used some of my own experiences in life to bring the poem to life and make it relatable to any reader it was written a long time ago back in 1992
