Analysis of The Power of Words

It's only words and that is all,
None could cause someone's downfall.
So allow me to give you a short lesson
First are words that are full of aggression.

obtuse, witless, dense, imbecile, dull,
moronic, dolt
All mean stupid and are meant to cause one to revolt.

repulsive, monstrous, grotesque, vile,
atrocious, horrifying
All describe ugly with clear intent on what one’s implying.

nugatory, meritless, despicable,
no-account, waste
Words that mean worthless meant to leave one disgraced.

There is real power within the words we use,
Most of the time we use our language only to abuse.

The power of words can also be used in love and to create change,
For positive reinforcement and a unifying exchange.

It's time to teach the world that the hate can be overcome,
If one combines words of acceptance and truth such darkness will succumb.

To show the way to change the world to what it's meant to be,
Let's teach it first to expand on kinder vocabulary.

About this poem

“Sticks and stones may break my bones but words can never hurt me.” NOT TRUE. The right words used a specific way can hurt and it happens a lot on a daily basis. I hope this poem encourages people to think again and to use their words to uplift, support and change.
