Analysis of RHAPSODY IN BLACK
jp. 1948 (United Kingdom)
Rhapsody in black
Borne on the tide of yesterday
A child that will no longer play
The flotsam of this desperate time
Human cargo to the sea consigned
Dollars and cents a fare ill booked
One more atrocity as TV looked
Another pawn in the politics game
Exploitation looking for a name
Driven by war, persecution and greed
It is written on the faces for all to read
There in the hold of the expendable boat
On the railway lines in a dull hum note
It clings to the roof of Artic trucks
Permeating the ground as the wire is cut
Hear it on the wind through the razor wire
The dead are minion as traffickers conspire
The child on the beach can't hear it now
He will not see Kos from the deck of a Dhow
But his image will live for a hundred years
On the tide of migrants bathed in tears
Displaced people, refugees of our time
A tide of humanity borders cannot confine
Midnight travellers waiting for a train
Looking for somewhere to belong and remain
