Letter to my unborn child

Uhunoma Leonard Iyahen 1986 (United States)

To you youth is soon to belong my son
while my own age shall be on the run,
I shall become gray,
and watch your flesh sparkle like morning rays.

If they ever questioned you about when i lived
tell them i breath same air with United State President Barack Obama,

If they ever questioned you about the dreams i believed
tell them the dreams of Martin Luther King Jr.

And if ever they question you about what makes my poem unique
tell them the poet is neither black nor white man ,nor slave nor king,
Say i am just a dad, a real good one at that.

And if in your time they ever take any man as a slave
tell them about life and grave, who gives freedom
to kings, queens, poets and slaves.
