Ride Home

Black and silver and dusted green
Sun rays pour down a heavenly scene

The rain shines hot on the shield of pride
The sum of the two turns to steam and glide

Pull of the wind like a horse and a plow
Heaving steadily heavy and soothing some how

Grimy white warriors tower up tall
Twisting and writhing so frightening to all

Steadily advancing high on the knoll
Shadowed I flank them, an unnoticed soul

Retreating through maples and pines and fences
Leaving conflict behind with all my defenses

Before me the twilight softly is calling
As silhouettes begin stretching and slowly start crawling

The crows soar to roost as the shadows are near
Feathered phantoms in darkness they just disappear

Moments last eternal while old souls grow older
As the blazing inside shrinks to a smolder

Dust off the road and run through a comb
And soon another day and another ride home
