One Saturday Morning Atop A Guava Tree
One Saturday morning, when I was eight...
Feeling "all by myself," atop a guava tree...
Picking and, eating
Some of its sweet and juicy yellow and, green...
I felt the earth shook so violently that I thought
I was going to fall down hard like a coconut.
Outright, I did not know (because I was in utter
Shock and pain), that I was really doing all the shaking.
Why? Because for the first time (and last), I was stung by a bee.
And thank God, luck was a friend, because I was not there...
All alone and really "by myself." For when I called out for
Him--my beloved father, like a flash of lightning across the sky,
I saw him running toward me, all the while crying out loud:
"I am here, Nonoy co! You will be okay!"
And he helped me, ever so carefully--come down the tree,
While chewing frantically four or five of its leaves that he
Eventually would paste over to cure "the spot" behind my neck.
I will always hold dear and cherish the memory of my Tatay.
And for the rest of my life, I will cry missing him so, as
When I think of that "one Saturday morning atop a guava tree."
