Gene With The Green Eyes

I sat alone in the crowded lounge, awaiting my flight.
A man of means, apparently, came to share my table.
"Hello, my name is Gene," said he.
He spoke through eyes of emerald green
He proceeded to inform me of his itinerary.
Excited he seemed, at least to me.
I found myself envious, and wished he would leave.
I admit his smile was infectious, finding it irksome.
It became increasingly difficult to remain petulant.
He called me son while seemingly younger than I.
"I think I'm lost," said Gene with the green eyes.
"Let me see your ticket. Perhaps I can help", I said.
"It's okay. It's good to get lost once in a while.
It sometimes saves us from a life we weren't
meant to live", smiled Gene with ancient green eyes.
He said goodbye, leaving me once again feeling lonely.
And wishing I were lost.
