Dawg Gone Days
The devil's raindrops on Lake Shallow
Where the turtles snap at your toes
A funky-fly fisherman flails like a canary
A bucket filled with suffering suicide fish
And a hand full of two-toned jellyworms
Sundogs appear in the hazey sky
In the break beyond the clouds
Lying on the jagged bank
The buzzards land within feet of you
When you lie still too frequently
You try to skip a crystal
But it sinks to the open bottom
The snakes in warpaint slithering about
Can wind your clock in haphazard fashion
Until it stops keeping time altogether
Drift off to sleep and fall into yourself
Until you lose count or your breath
And confront your fears unwillingly
Tucked away into night's hue
While the rain has subsided
