Wallace Dean LaBenne

Sporting competition is deft ambition.

You may lose at the meet or thrive if you beat.

You may have derring-do or have a set-to.

You may run a fast race or drop in disgrace.

You may go to the match or have fish to catch.

You may pound in the bout or thrash all about.

You may opponents slay or fail in the fray.

You may score in each round or make a whining sound.

You may win the contest or fall to the best.

Athletic rivalry can aid mastery.

You may play every game or boast "Hall Of Fame."
