Gloria Jean

Arica R. Brazil 1991 (North Carolina)

Long red nails
Gapped tooth smile
Salt and pepper curls
That's beauty to me

Bedazzled stir-up pants
Kitten heels
Dancing in the kitchen
That's joy to me

Collards and hot water cornbread
Cast Iron skillets
Al Green cassette tapes
That's nourishment to me

Summer feels empty now
January 9th
I'd rather not
That's pain to me

Since you've been gone
There's a lot I remember
The way you filled my life
Forever moved by your absence
