Inglorious Raine
What is my life without you,
Or where would I be?
You spin in luxury and smiles
While I adore you.
You tantalize and comfort me
For a little while,
Then slip away, like an ocean wave,
And I am left standing, in the tide, feeling empty,
Like a shadow took your place,
Like the sun you brought was just a dream,
And now I dwell in memories of your warm embrace.
I don't know what lies within me,
I don't know what lies without.
I don't know what there is left to cry or smile or laugh about.
I don't know what's left to linger, here, but faith in the face of doubt.
I am strong, even when I cannot see the ground beneath me,
For I walk on clouds, or water, or stone, or anything you bequeath me.
I would follow you most anywhere, but then, where would you leave me?
You are so beautiful, and what but my lonely heart can I give you?
You fought my war,
And put my fantasies on the screen.
Even in the worst moments, when I perished, I punished the wicked, too.
You were my face, when I thought I had none.
And with you I faced the demons and avenged myself and my brothers.
We were soldiers, we were lovers, we were women, we were men.
We killed what we detested, and we loved, despite the sin,
And we hoped one day we'd find each other, but some things are too sweet
To be anything but a dream, and only in dreams will we meet.
We led a crusade against the worst of evils and we won.
We left an impression that will be remembered, and the sun
Shone down on us, and now, we've got respect from friends and foes.
Must we part at the end of the journey, when I wish to be home
With you? Oh, carry with you my spirit, and recall
The one who loved you every step of the way, and the call
Of one from far away, and yet, so close, inside your mind.
Remember our journey to conquer and the unity we find
In each other. Remember or quest,
And in my heart you'll be a brother, not a guest.
