The fight for irish freedom
Since Britain first invaded our shores
As a nation we have never experienced
Freedom although across the generations
Many have fought and died for our country's
Liberation...
~
An heroic event was the Easter Rising of 1916
For it ensured that National Independence was
Declared after Republican Nationalists won an
All Ireland election during 1918 by 70 plus
Candidates elected against Unionism's 20 plus.
~
But in spite of the peoples expressed will Britain
Opposed the democratic verdict and illegally
Remained. Which led eventually to division and
The reality of a Civil War amongst nationalists,
In the wake of the reality of political partition.
~
The latter led to the existence of two statelets- one
Under the influence of Britain and the other ruled by
Those who eventually opposed the result of the 1918
Election and accepted political partition.Namely Fine Gael to be followed by Fianna Fail. And today the Provos!
~
And within the context of the one hundredth Anniversary of the 1916 Rising many expressions Relating to the myth that our country is no longer Under British control permeated the mass media of Communication both north and south of the border...
~
But as Pearse said: "Ireland un -free shall never be at Peace"! Based upon the truth that the heart of 'Peace' Is Justice and the latter must exist and be seen to Exist. So let us not despair for our Nation will yet be Free! Yes, for there are men and women, today, similar To Patrick Pearse, and Bobby Sands....
