Comme un verre intact, avant l'heure
Où le remplira l'échanson,
Au plus léger coup qui l'effleure
Vibre d'un sonore frisson,
Mais pour la fugitive atteinte
N'a plus de soupir cristallin,
Et ne tressaille ni ne tinte
Sans aucun heurt dès qu'il est plein,
Le jeune coeur, vivant calice,
Frémit plaintif au moindre appel,
Avant que l'Amour le remplisse
De son généreux hydromel ;
Mais, quand cet échanson céleste
L'a, soudain, comblé jusqu'au bord,
Plus rien n'y bat pour tout le reste ;
Silencieux, il paraît mort ;
C'est qu'il peut dédaigner la terre,
Il aime ! le ciel est entré
Dans sa profondeur solitaire :
Il est immuable et sacré.
