Hare Krishna

the world's a dumpster fire
and we're all just
standing around
fanning the flames

my guru says
the material world
is a prison
we're just
trying to escape

but it's hard
when the bars
are made of
smartphones
and social media
and the warden
is our own
ego

I chant
Hare Krishna
Hare Krishna
but the mantra
gets lost
in the din
of notifications
and breaking news

we're so
disconnected
from the earth
from each other
from our own
hearts

I see
people walking
down the street
with their heads
bowed down
not in prayer
but in worship
of their screens

the world's a
cesspool
and we're all
just swimming
in it
trying not
to drown

my guru says
the only way
out is
in
but it's hard
to find
the door
when the walls
are made of
mirrors

I look
around
and all I see
is suffering
and all I feel
is despair

Hare Krishna
Hare Krishna
but the mantra
gets lost
in the noise
of the world

I'm just
trying to find
my way
through the darkness
but it's hard
when the only
light
is the glow
of my phone
