Where Most Young Folks Are At
Lawrence S. Pertillar 1947 (Connecticut)
As a writer of nonfiction.
With a taking of poetic liberties.
Taking what I observe to see.
Seldom do I express an opinion.
Given thoughtlessly.
And I must admit,
There are times I could use fiction.
But...
In these tumultuous days we live in,
Needless it is...
To create and depict,
The truth and reality...
How it is to be humorous.
With a mix of seriousness...
Too irresistible to resist not to miss,
Taking advantage of it.
Not only are these days crazed.
As if fashionable enough,
Many seem volunteering to normalize...
Publicly everywhere,
To participate in a mental rage.
Just to be among those out of their minds.
Fearing to be left behind.
With a wishing to want to be approved.
And be accepted to be found,
Updated with the latest...
Dysfunctional abnormalities.
Rehearsed and practiced to perfection.
Leaving no doubt.
That whatever had been,
A sanity to brag about.
Believe it or not,
Denial, delusion and the telling of lies...
Has left common sense and insight,
A thing done to do in the past.
Ask the young folks.
Mentally attached,
To their computerized cellphones.
Who will question...
'Why on Earth...
Should anyone value bother to think at all.
Attempting to understand,
And comprehend anything?
When that 'difficult' task,
Has been made much easier...
To advance further in life and succeed.
By Artificial Intelligence.
Unable to breathe down anyone's neck.
Then instantly correct,
What direction one should take next.
Done without insight just to impress.'
Hmmm...
Aging is a terrible thing to waste.
Trying to make the young folks,
Realized how in the old days...
People actually communicated,
How they felt to reminisce.
What for them no longer exists.
And could care less,
About times that have gone.
Or people holding onto nonsense missed!
Finding that nonsense,
Neither humorous or beneficial.
They are not of those times.
Like most of us these days that are old.
O-L-D!
Insightful with wisdom.
Or old with wishes gone unfulfilled.
It doesn't matter to those young.
And...
Although they may respond
Disrespectfully.
That's where their minds are at.
Period!
