In a Big House

Mathew L. Hunt 1973 (Los Alamitos, CA)

In a big house, people are there
Having fun, making noise everywhere,
Laughing until the hours are done.
I am there, but I am no one.

In a big chest, pain and sorrow are there.
They linger and are much too hard to bear,
Reminders of love that was taken.
My heart is there, and it is breaking.

In a big town, people rush by
To work or shop or eat they drive,
Too busy to smell the roses there.
Alone I walk, nobody cares.

In a big world, countries ally
To battle and to war they fly
Over religion and boundaries of land.
Peace is there, they do not understand.

In a big house, the halls are silent,
Nobody is there and all is quiet.
The air is still and time has run.
I am there, but I am no one.
