Running in Susquehanna
The birch of ashen bark
Could smile for me awhile
I bleed to drink your cup
I bleed to meet your glee
Would the trees entertain me
When no one else can sustain me
When no man could set me free?
The shore is a’lap and awash
Upon the banks of Susquehanna
Where the glimmer of light waves to me
From the black waters a’waining
I bleed to know your hand
I bleed to feel it on my back
I bleed to understand my dad
I bleed to know what I can
In the ruts of a road I belong
For echoing the lies from Susquehanna
She returns to me in the belligerent song
Awhile she a’lap and awash and a’wait for me
By the birch near the shore where the stones
Round like mills and rough as grain
Are supposed to impale me
For what I’ve done wrong
