Ireland

If I shall fall to my death
Be it from the Cliffs of Moher
If Death shall come silently
May he come knocking on my door

May he pass me during my sinful days
And catch me in my days of devotion
If I shall drown on my life’s last day
May it be in the Atlantic Ocean?

May the winds wrap themselves
Like a blanket around me
May they push my soul to meet my Lord
And to dust, leave my body

May Death hold my hand
As he walks me down the aisle
And for reasons unknown to me
Looking into the horizon, may I smile?

About this poem

This poem is inspired by my first solo travel journey to Ireland, which fascinated me inexplicably. The poem touches on the moving nature of complete freedom, and possibly the religious guilt that comes alongside it.
