The Warrior
Louann M. Myke 1965 (Ontario)
He stands high on a mountain top
And looks over his land with a sigh
He sees changes that are disturbing
And it brings a tear to his eye.
With skillful eyes he notices,
The pain, the crime, the war
And he wishes that it could be
The way it was before.
It hurts him to see the fish die
And know that most of the birds are gone
It used to be a great land
Why has everything gone wrong?
Are people too selfish to realize
The destruction they have caused?
Are they too busy to even care
About everything that is lost?
He now bows his head in sorrow
And weeps for what once was his home,
The Warrior once so proud and strong
Is now just a man-sad and alone.

About this poem
Many years ago there was a commercial about the "love" canal and Iron Eyes Cody was in it. This poem is dedicated to that.
