Avoid Gluttony

Ronald Bunch 1982 (Grand Rapids)

Freedom can make me glad.

Freedom can make me sad.

I seize two plates of food, one savory, one bad.

I choose health-giving food not being mad.

I scrape the unhealthy food in a trash bin.

The garbageman will dump junk food like sin.

Like fat, sin can cling to me and make me not well.

Sin, a dish best served in hell.

About this poem

I would like to express that your literary voice should be warm and sympathetic, and that it should not be cold and biased or overwise, given Christ's example. He sympathizes with our weaknesses of course, and I must admit that I have a weakness for junk food, which I eat quite often because I don't make time to cook proper meals for myself. Perhaps, your poem, like the sanity of a disciplinarian's manual has shined some light on the nutritional choice perspective and given a savory taste of salt to the health food equation. I won't be sad to see the junk food go, for the love of the Lord God Almighty!
