Echoes of Desolation

Khalifatal-Akhbar 2000 (Kano)

In the ebb and flow of light and shadow,
the hungry midriff weeps with loneliness.
Lizards possessed the kitchen doors,
Cobwebs decorated the bookshelves,
Men were forced to bend –were groggy,
Excavating hope hopelessly.

Feeding from the plate of  life;
Grave gropes groom grotesquely.
Sensing the breath of fear,
Welcomed by the absence of love.
Memories were planted; scars were harvested–
Mapa invite the young to grave.

Shelves were found
brunch is secured; hangry relinquishes.
