The trenches
The trenches
By
Olokooba Oladimeji AbdulAzeez
If you don't know the story, do not question the glory
Because behind the glory, there are series of untold stories.
I sail from the trench
Where success is seen as an obligation
Like religion obligatory chores, we perceived success
Where failure is our greatest foes
Where poverty is seen as an antigen
Our attire looks tattered like a labourer on duty
Diligency remains our rectitude
As the only sword we have to break down our woes
All the way from the trench
Where our breakfast is being suspended to meet the lunch
Sometimes we had only the luncheon for the rest of the day
Al miskinu billah we answered
If wishes were horsee, beggers will surely ride, they say
How I wish i was born with a silver spoon
Some of us wishes
I repeat, I sail from a real trench
Where three meal square seems forbidden
Where we bouy ourselves for hours
In the land of trenches
Where a day break is prohibited
Where a little sleep, a little slumber, so shall poverty come upon thee
Is our daily anthem
Where No struggle No success is our mottor
In the land of trenches
Where our intellectual mobility is our priority
Where primitive doesn't mean stupidity
Where we safe ourselves from any calamity
Where we protect our sanity
Because we know this is vanity
Where our appearance is our identity
Where his grace will remain till infinity
We shalll remain indelible till eterrnity
I sail from the trench, I repeat
Where we strived through the four cardinal point to get our daily bread
Where the six geopolitical zone is not enough for us to struggle
Where happiness is once in a life time
God shall always chase away flies for the tailless cow
We strongly believe
The sky is wider enough for everyone to get to the top
There is no room for competition, we believe
There is no time for comparison, incase you don't know
If you now detest us, nah your own wahala
We are just sons of nobody
Working to be somebody
Infront of everybody
Without consulting anybody
Because God is the Lord of everybody.
