I don't Need your Love anymore
When the world seemed smaller and our love was so big
I could capture each moment we smiled like giddy kids
Now i watch you love her and I feel so ashamed
Cause the love I longed for you simply gave away
I used to try and be exactly what you wanted
Instead i found myself fighting the girl I'd forgotten
And still I prayed for us to just be okay
Until the day you made me walk away
Your love for me and suddenly turned to hate
Now it's 20 years down this road
we still don't get along
I'm trying hard to stand on my own
But i know that you'll just
come back with hateful words
Cut me deep because of her
I never thought I'd be hated by the man I loved
The name i kept and child I bore
Was never enough for you to love me
I tried to stay around for years, I became your whore that was clear
you'd call me up then cuss me out tear me down then build me up
For years and years I cried those tears of broken heart
I never realized the game until I was shattered on the ground
Now it's 20 years down this road
we still don't get along
I'm trying hard to stand on my own
But i know that you'll just
come back with hateful words
Cut me deep because of her
I never thought I'd be hated by the man I loved
The name i kept and child I bore
Was never enough for you to love me
I don't need your love anymore-
About this poem
This is a poem that I wrote to express my relationship with my ex- husband. We've been divorced 12 years and for a long time he was still verbally abusive. After a trip to jail and obtaining my own sobriety...the hurt still surfaces from time to time. It's the best way to tell part of my story of determination and survival.
