Always, but not forever

I drift off to slumber
And I see your face
Always, but not forever.

As I slowly wake in the morn
I remember your smile
Always, but not forever.

As I maneuver through my day
I can still hear your voice
Always, but not forever.

I pick up my phone
Wanting to text you
Always, but not forever

Yearning to feel
Your arms around me
Always, but not forever.

Hoping to stay friends
Yet becoming just acquaintances
Always, but not forever.

Drifting further apart
Hoping for reconnection
Always, but not forever.

I want us to stay close always
But I won't pursue forever.
