Misty Morning

Reflections, conceptions,
Thoughts whirling around my head
Without anything to grasp on,
Resistant to writing them down;
Making them whole
Seeing them on the page.
Feelings of coming undone
Coming loose
Unsure
Avoiding the mirror,
Avoiding the page.
Where did all that certainty go?

Misty morning, the sea out there a comforting hush: It’ll be ok,
Get out of your head,
Get out of your tiny world;
Beyond, it is vast.

A wave washes over my face,
Heat, rippling, from navel to eyelids through chest, neck.
I close my eyes to drink in
The physical weight of emotion
(the unbearable lightness of being?)
The shape of feeling alone
The materiality of tears;
Warm, salty, heavy, consumed into skin by gravity,
They drop and disappear.

A cool breeze enters from the grey morning outside,
Icy on the wet pathways tracing back to eyes.
Whatever the smallness of mind,
There’s some consolation in feeling  –
This humanness, this expansiveness, today.
