Blue

sitting on that couch in the basement, talking for hours, but the moments of silence spoke louder
i’ve seen stories like this in movie scenes, i saw your heart of red, but i didn’t know it was hurting till you began to bleed
and my stary eyes, gullible to white lies, began to cry, the moment it sank in when i watched you leave

i wonder why its so painful to love you?
the bigger confusion is how, after all this, i still do
time seems to move differently for us
you went on, but i was frozen like ice
and it took me so damn long, but i made it out,
screaming and crying, like a child i’d shout,
but eventually, i learned and into a new girl i grew
so why the hell did you have to show up again, out of the blue?

i think my friends got pretty tired, of hearing your name a million times
and honestly i did too, but it felt like loving you was programmed in my design
cos you were my favorite person, and easily detaching, i’m not inclined
and even though it killed me, i tried a million times
being left in the dark is a pain that hurts most when it’s new
many drunk texts and faithless nights wondering, what did i do?
despite the hollow hope, somehow, i finally got over you
so why the hell’d you have to show up again, out of the blue?

please don’t do this, i can’t lose this progress that i’ve made
finally packed that part of me away, and that’s where it should stay
‘unfinished business’ is the worst thing i’ve ever heard
don’t crawl back to me, the line is drawn, it cannot now be blurred
the first time killed me, the second time, the pain just gets worse
so go back to where you came from, please don’t make there be a third

i’m not just a toy, i’m not the barbie to your ken
besides if i were, i’d already be broken
i’m not a strong as you, so tell me that we’re through
and don’t come crawling back like i’m just waiting on queue
i know i might crumble and say that i want you too
so please just avoid it altogether, don’t come crawling out of the blue

About this poem

I wrote this poem pretty quick, it flowed out of me pretty fast. I think this is because it was my first time really facing these emotions about this certain person/scenario so I feel like, in actually putting pen to paper, it was just itching to come out. Also, I am pretty new to poetry but I like it so far.
