Train Ride

The chugging of the engine
As we take it round the bend
The driver blows the whistle
And we hear it at the end.

We meander through the stations
Collecting staffs along the way
And the steam trails out behind us
Oh it's such an awesome day!

With the fireman and the driver
Covered head to toe in soot
As they watch the water levels
And give the horn a toot.

As we pass another station
All the people come to wave
Then they'll boast about it at the pub,
Oh how they love to rave!

So as the sun sets in the distance
And our day draws to a close,
We'll go home and dream of engines
As we enjoy our sweet repose.

About this poem

I work on trains in NSW Australia but love the old steam trains. I watch people waving and taking photos as the heritage trains go by.
