A trip North
Who the hell are you?
Nose ring refracting the light
Beckoning from the
Familiar landing skylight
Is it really you?
A solemn trip to pound land
In a tired city
Begging to be born again
WKD
And vapes behind the counter
Of the music shop
I loved this place as a kid
What happened to you?
I used to have a crush on you
Even if we were young
My 8 year old heart loved you
Our visits were short
A trip to the park or zoo
But I couldn't wait
Every time to see your face
And now he we are
Strawberry clouds and vodka
Knocked out in an hour
After 5 glasses of wine
I really missed you.
About this poem
This poem is about an old friend who moved away from my hometown when we were 5. Our parents met from the maternity ward and we were considered soulmates by our nursery teachers. This poem is about seeing her for the first time in three years when we were 16. I use an extended form of haiku, and have focused more on common language and emotional writing than imagery and metaphors. Hope you enjoy!
