Let each other be
The last time I looked in the mirror
I looked every bit a human.
I drank water when thirsty
And ate what I had when hungry
I was taught I had rights in all boundaries
My passion was equally colourful
My skin, brown and brave, as always
I believed in beliefs until
I was afraid to see the light
I have the right to believe
While you are free not to
I breathe in the same air
My blood is red too.
I want to walk life my way
But not where your roads want me to
My rights could be your wrongs,
You may go to bed
When I start to beat the heat
The bread I eat smells of my sweat
Our dawns are same though not our dreams
We could still let each other be.
About this poem
The poem is about what faith does to humanity. As days pass, our boundaries are decided by religion and its practices that build walls within communities. The poem i my voice and echoes of voices of those people who believe in equality and the right to believe or not to believe.
