The Greatest Love of All

I’d been in love before, but this time wasn’t the same

When Michael passed, I had resigned from playing the game

He was my soulmate, I couldn’t admit he was gone

Simultaneously, I was busy but withdrawn

Until the day I met “Him” and everything seemed right

Even with my defenses up, my heart couldn't fight

We were a match made in heaven, we fit perfectly

I wondered if it'd effect Michael indirectly

‘Cause he'd want me to be happy, no doubt in my mind

And, my new love was funny, intelligent and kind

Soon, we were holding hands and taking walks at the beach

And, He learned when I did wrong, I didn't want a speech

He knows His place; sometimes He leads, sometimes He stands back

Patient and forgiving, He has what other men lack

He's with me when people are cruel and insults are hurled

So often I feel like it's just us against the world

I remember the day when I gave up, in disgust

All my secrets, I had decided to just trust

I told of my transgressions, expecting Him to leave

But, His response was something very few can conceive

He told me He loves me and described a diff’rent day

When He was crucified and took all my sins away

He gave up His life for me when He got the call

And, the Bible says that is the greatest love of all

About this poem
